Beads and more Beads

I have become obsessed with beads!

A little while ago I made a Book thong for a little thank you gift, I enjoyed it so much that I thought I would make a bunch and have them for little gifts at Christmas. However, I needed to find beads with the right size hole to fit a chain of crochet through.  So, I have been haunting our local charity shops.  I got lucky last Friday and found three chunky necklaces that just perfect for the job.

The thongs are so quick to make I made Friday night and 2 Saturday morning

The pattern can be found here via my project page on Ravelry or directly via the Interweave website here for those of you not on Ravelry.

Already in use!

I am also looking out for a pattern using beads for a bag, but, I think I will wing it, so watch this space.

The only other crafting I have done this week is a start on a doily. I am hosting an August Doily Cal for in a group I belong to - OurHappy Cal Place.

I love Grace Fearon’s doilies as they are so textured and contemporary looking. This one is called Mable. Or on her website it is free.

This is the finest doily I have made! I don’t know the size of thread as it was an op shop find with the label gone.  But it has a lovely sheen and is well twisted so there is no splitting. I am up to round 20 and it is only 5 inches across.  I must say that the clover hooks make it much easier to do fine work.

This will be finished tomorrow as there are only 4 more rounds.

My goal is to make a doily a week for August,so I am on target.

Well really that’s it for this week I never even picked up my crochet blankets or knitting last week. Been outside in the garden, it is almost in ship shape order, just have to prune two apple trees and will be done.  The weather forecast for the next week seems to have a lot of rain so I guess there will be more crochet and knitting completed.

This is a YOP post and to see what other yoppers are doing go here.
(If any non Ravelry members are reading this YOP is a group on Ravelry for bloggers to share their posts on yarn related crafts. YOP = Year of Projects  and runs from july to June.)

  2. Oooh... I see some pretty beads in that mix! Be sure to check out my book thongs I made this weekend, too, Sharon. They are truly addicting to make, aren't they? I love the doily! It looks complicated, but I wonder if it is. I'm thinking of trying it after I finish the simpler one I'm making this week.

    1. Thank you Becki, I have seen your thongs and they are lovely, your doily too. The Mable doily is not as difficult as it looks and quite quick to do.

Not a lot of crochet has been done this past week.  I have been lured away from it by the garden and the urge to do spring cleaning, which i...
