A Busy Week

The past week has been very full of activity and this week looks set to be the same.  However I have managed to get some crafting done.

I started two lap blankets for 2 elderly friends, the patterns  are both from Attic 24 the top is from the Dune Cal and the bottom from the Sweet Pea Cal. Both are just random colours I have in my stash.  The patterns are nice and easy and quick. Nice and relaxing when I have a spare minute or two.

I like to sit in the chair shown and Lucy usually joins me on her rug. And yes I have a lot of plants. I suspect I might be a plant hoarder!!!!

Lately I have got into propagating my houseplants, and have a lot that I need to pot up.  I like to put my cuttings in water to start them off, the danger of doing it this way is you have to keep an eye on the length of roots as if they are longer that a couple of centimetres they don't transfer to the soil very well.

This week I finished this drawing of the  Morepork (Ruru)owl, it has taken me ages as it is the biggest drawing (50cm x 40cm) I have ever done.  Its common name of morepork is because its call sounds like someone calling out morepork, lol.

My plans to follow a menu plan totally failed!  But I did eat well, a lot of curries and last night, chili con carne.  Today I was going to make an Ottilenghi dish but as per usual I changed it and it became an empty out the fridge tart!  It was delicious, it had ham, sweet potato, tomato and capsicum and egg.

As the menu plan idea failed I decided I would work on wasting less food. I would make a list of the food that needed to be used for the week and cook dishes around that and hopefully I will be less wasteful.  This week I need to use up carrots, lettuce from the garden before it goes to seed,  zucchini, the glut is starting. lol. I also need to use some cooked, meats from the freezer as they deteriorate if keep too long.

So far I have only spent $6.50 for eggs from the market. so my no shop budget is going well. But I need bananas, and some bread as I don't feel like baking any as it is too hot.

I hope all is well with you all and you are all keeping well, Lucy and I hope you have a good week.

  2. Many thanks for sharing the dishcloth patterns on your last post. I have saved them as I do make dishcloths now and again. Those sort of makes are good for when I have finished a large project and want to just crochet something quick and easy. They are also good for using up cotton leftovers. Beautiful and impressive owl drawing. Yes...I could definitely see a very interesting book with these sort of drawings being very successful! I am an ardent follower of Lucy Queen of Colour at Attic24! Gorgeous colours by the way. Love that mass of green. I think being a plant hoarder is good for your health LOL! keep well. Amanda x

    1. Thanks Amanda, Lucy of Attic24 is definitely the Queen of colour.I think plants are a natural air freshener as if the house is shut up for a while or it is hot it never smells musty. Keep safe and well.

  3. The blankets are going to be be lovely Lucy's patterns are as you say nice and easy to follow. I'm most impressed with your drawing it's amazing. I used to have so many house plants they were taking over but had to cut down when I moved as there just not the room for them here and the lighting isn't as good. Have a great week. xx

  4. Lovely crochet; the blankets will be much appreciated, I'm sure. You remind me of my mother with all your plants! She, too, had such a green thumb and our homes were filled with plants! Thank you for the tip about planting up cuttings before the roots get too long! I think that's my problem - I wait too long! Your owl drawing is just awesome! And Lucy is just adorable!

  7. Some ones are going to love those colorful blankets when they're done. I've learned something. I did not know that one needs to be careful to not let cuttings' roots get too long. Your owl drawing is beautiful, Sharon. And that Empty Out the Fridge Tarte looks amazing. Anything with a crust is kind of amazing in my book. ;^)

  8.  Thank you for such a great post you wrote here and I'm very obliged to write an article here on the benefit of herbal herbs.I am 29 years old and have been diagnosed with breast cancer, ease of treatment and a similar story, except for my first acceptance as a rejection of herbal medicine. I was not part of the Perseid movement and did not really build relationships with any of them, I just believed in their operation. I say this because it was during the use of Dr. Itua herbal medicine that I now attest that herbal medicine is real, the phytotherapy Dr. Itua heals my breast cancer which I suffered for 2 years.
