I am at a season in my life where I am quite unsettled! So this week I took myself off to a local trampers (hikers) trail and lost myself in the quiet unspoiled beauty of our native bush. Several hours later I emerged, happier and determined to stop my procrastinating about changes that I want to make in my life. A lot has changed in my life over the last couple of years and I was trying to carry on as normal. But lets face it, sometimes we have to accept the changes and reset our lives. I think my lack of motivation was mirrored by my blogging - spasmodic and jumping about allover the place. I started this blog with the intention of blogging about a simple life in preparation for my retirement.
At the beginning I achieved this then I learnt to crochet and I became obsessed with it and I just blogged about crochet. Over the last year or so it has just become one of my hobbies along with gardening, cooking, art and reading. Also, I am retired now. I have actually found it quite hard to adjust, to slow down and smell the roses.
One good thing about lockdown was that I did learn to stand still, appreciate the small things and take stock of my life. Now that we are out of lockdown I am finding it easier not to be bustling about after other people, it is quite astonishing that you find out who your true friends are when you start to say "no" to requests. Like the friend, when I said no to helping her with a task as I was not feeling well, sent her husband around to mow my lawns. That's a true friend, not like another when I said "no" who muttered and sighed and hasn't been in touch since! I think that when I retired, I replaced work with running around keeping busy as I had all this time to fill!
Anyways, this morning while I was reading a blog that I follow I saw that she had changed the look of her blog and a bell went off in my head! So I headed to themes and came up with this format, I think it needs a few tweaks, but I like it as it looks fresh and clean - no clutter!
Talking about clutter, that is something I have to work on seriously! First on the list is my crochet supplies, I have wool and cotton stuffed everywhere! I need to go through it all and decide what I will use and the rest be donated. Second are my cupboards in the hall, laundry and bedroom, likewise they are stuffed with odds and ends like old china, appliances, art materials, magazines, books, clothes you name it, I probably have it. Thirdly, The Shed!
So today, my first task is to attack the hall cupboard I want to turn it into an extended pantry over the next few months. I am not a prepper but I want to have the security of knowing that I have a backup of supplies if we go into another lockdown or if I am ill or there is some other emergency. I will do a post on this later.
So here's to a new start......

Hi Sharon. I love your new look - well done !!! Its not easy to change the look of your blog - especially now blogger seems to have a mind of its own. Its also not easy to change things in your life so good on you! You sound focused & on a mission. I used to spend my time running around after everyone too - its hard to change from that kind of a mindset & YES - I lost lots of folk when I put a stop to it. I decided my "word" for this year would be boundaries & gosh I lost some folk when I started to put them (boundaries) in place. You take care of YOU my friend & think of yourself - no one is going to come along & do it for us. Have a great weekend.
ReplyDeleteHere's to a new start!! Indeed this is what I should be doing myself! I can identify with many of the things that you have mentioned here in your post except I haven't got to the focus on a new start as you have. I retired last April and I seem to be lost since then. Initially it was nice to be free....no work obligations, responsibility and schedules and so on. That wore off pretty rapidly and I got bored and lost. I seem to be waiting for something...although I am not sure what it is. A very interesting post Sharon and in my opinion your new inspiring look reflects yourself.....change...innovation and perhaps also determination . I am already looking forward to your next post! keep well Amanda x
ReplyDeleteWhat a great new look to your blog. Hope you manage to get the cupboard sorted. I did much the same at the start of lockdown to make a store cupboard and it works well. Wishing you well and have a great weekend.
ReplyDeleteI can totally relate but you are well ahead of me you are so focused so well done. I have been meaning to declutter and Lockdown seemed to be the perfect time to do that but the clutter remains. Standing still does make you realise that you don't really need all the hustle and bustle in your life, I really haven't missed it. I like the clean lines of your blog mine is definitely cluttered and messy and I do intend get rid of some of the stuff on there. As for crochet I'm afraid I'm still obsessed especially now that I've discovered mosaic crochet. Good luck with with your decluttering and have a lovely weekend. xx
ReplyDeleteI like the new look of your blog - as you said, clean and simple, no clutter, helps to focus on the content.
ReplyDeleteI've been trying to declutter my life and home ever since lockdown started way back in March, and while I did manage to get rid of a lot of stuff, I still feel I'm not exactly where I wanted to be. Looking back, I think it was a case of "be careful what you wish for". I kept saying how I wanted to have a few weeks off work, to refocus and regroup, to get some projects on the way, or better even, completed - but the moment it happened, I didn't know how to fill all those long hours. Apparently, making up one's own schedule for the day or week doesn't come naturally, it's a task one has to learn.
Good luck with your decluttering.!
ReplyDeleteThank you for such a great post you wrote here and I'm very obliged to write an article here on the benefit of herbal herbs.I am 29 years old and have been diagnosed with breast cancer, ease of treatment and a similar story, except for my first acceptance as a rejection of herbal medicine. I was not part of the Perseid movement and did not really build relationships with any of them, I just believed in their operation. I say this because it was during the use of Dr. Itua herbal medicine that I now attest that herbal medicine is real, the phytotherapy Dr. Itua heals my breast cancer which I suffered for 2 years. CNC Machining is a manufacturing course of the place computer systems run Shower Caps applications that control how the machines will manufacture components. These CNC Programs using CNC Software can control everything from the motions the machine makes to spindle velocity, turning coolant on or off, and much more. The computer language used to program CNC Machines is a standardized programming language called “G-Code”. Instead, visual programming tools called CAM Software are used to create the g-code.
